French and Italians Rarities at Portuguese Sale

LONDON (28 August 2019) – RM Sotheby’s is delighted to highlight details of an exciting grouping of rare French and Italian cars to be presented from The Sáragga Collection. The 130 car-strong collection is presented entirely without reserve nearby the stunning beach location of Comporta, Portugal, on 21 September 2019, and will feature an eclectic mix of desirable roadsters by Alfa Romeo and Lancia, in among rare Alpine and Willys models, further to the headline Mercedes-Benz, Porsche and other lots previously announced.
The trio of Italian roadsters is spearheaded by the stunning 1963 Lancia Flaminia GT 3C 2,8 Convertible by Touring, the 74th of 180 examples built and with a desirable Argento Auteuil Metallic-over-red-leather color scheme, all on a Touring Superleggera alloy body. Lancia’s Flaminia was the successor to the Italian marque’s groundbreaking Aurelia, featuring a modern V6 engine with rear-mounted DeDion transaxle and double-wishbone front suspension. The GT Convertible is a grand tourer made for covering long distances in comfort and style. Residing in Portugal since 2006, this car would be an excellent choice for a would-be buyer looking to enjoy the thrills of open-top Italian motoring (Est. €120,000 to €170,000).
The 1960 Alfa Romeo 2000 Spider complements the Lancia as another exciting Italian roadster in the collection. Residing in Portugal since at least 1981, the Spider was recently subject to a cosmetic restoration, including a repaint to the current dark green metallic color, paired with a new tan leather interior (Est. €80,000 to €110,000). The 1967 Fiat Spider by Pininfarina is another open-top option for the collector in search of an Italian classic. Fiat’s Ferrari-powered convertible is a highly desirable six-cylinder sports car, with this recently serviced, 2.0-litre Dino Spider finished in Bleu Francia with black skai interior (Est. €60,000 to €80,000).
Among the French contingent of classic cars that will go under the hammer in Portugal, a 1972 Alpine A110 1300 is offered in excellent condition throughout. The car boasts mild rally-prep specification including three-point harnesses, additional Cibie headlamps and larger tires. The A110 was unquestionably a French motorsport icon for an entire generation of enthusiasts, and this example is ready to be driven and enjoyed, allowing the new buyer to live the experience of driving a true rally legend on the road (Est. €60,000 to €80,000).
Also in the grouping of rare French-made cars, a 1961 Facel Vega F2 Facellia Cabriolet is presented in red paint over black leather as a charming roadster with power supplied by a 1,646cc twin-cam, four-cylinder engine backed up by a Pont-a-Mousson four-speed manual gearbox, with disc brakes for stopping efficiency. This rare car is one of only 679 Facellias built and is a unique opportunity to own a classic car seldom seen on European roads (Est. €40,000 to €60,000). The 1967 Matra Djet V is an immaculate example of the first mid-engine production automobile ever made, pioneered by the French company with Renault’s 70bhp 1,100cc Cléon-Fonte engine and bodied in fibre-glass. This example is one of the last produced, offered in attractive classic French Blue livery, and is a rare, lightweight and fun-to-drive sports car (Est. €30,000 to €40,000). A 1963 Willys Interlagos is a Brazilian-built sports car that offers an opportunity to acquire one of the lesser-known Alpine models, produced as an overseas extension of the Alpine franchise that built on the South American success of Willys. This example is finished in a fetching and seldom-seen color scheme of yellow over a white leather interior (Est. €25,000 to €35,000).
