New location
Paper Positions Berlin moves to Mitte
Paper Positions Berlin will take place with its second edition this spring and moves to the impressive atrium of the former telegraph office at Jägerstraße in Berlin-Mitte. Again the art fair will be held parallel to the Gallery Weekend in Berlin.
From 26-29 April 2018, 46 selected international galleries from 11 countries show their most important positions of contemporary and modern art with a focus on the material paper. Drawings, collages, paper cuttings, text works, photography, art books and objects are shown in an open exhibition format. By giving up the traditional fair booths, the character of a large group exhibition is underlined. The spatial design givesthe visitors both an open overview and the opportunity to perceive individual artistic works in a mutual dialogue. With 1000 square meters the hall in the capital representation of Deutsche Telekom offers paper positions berlin best conditions for the extension of its art fair concept.
Important building of postal history as new venue At the end of the 19th century, over 300 telegraphs were located in the hall that is architecturally inspired by the Venetian Renaissance. In the course of the union of post office and telegraphy in 1878, it has been build as an expansion of the house that at the same time was renamed Imperial Main Telegraph Office. Even after the modern reconstruction, the original ceiling structure with the glass ceiling supported by castiron columns has been preserved and gives the generous space with bright daylight an airy and relaxed, salon-like atmosphere.
The new location is situated in the heart of historic Berlin and in the midst of the art hotspots Museum Island and Gendarmenmarkt as well as the galleries and art collections not far from the Friedrichswerdersche church built by Karl Friedrich Schinkel.
