The CANAL+ Original series VERNON SUBUTEX, directed by Cathy Verney and starring Romain Duris and Céline Sallette, will premiere in the Out of Competition opening slot of CANNESERIES at the Palais des Festivals in Cannes on April 5th, 2019.
Inspired by Virginie Despentes’ novels « VERNON SUBUTEX – VOLUMES 1 AND 2 », published in France by Éditions Grasset, the first three episodes will premiere for the CANNESERIES audience free of charge. Tickets will be available online starting on March 22nd, 2019. Vernon Subutex, an unemployed form record shop owner is evicted from his apartment. In his search for a place to stay, Vernon contacts his former colleagues from the legendary record store Revolver. One of them is rock star Alex Bleach, who shortly after dies of an overdose and leaves behind three mysterious video tapes. Vernon slips anonymously into the city where he becomes Paris’ most wanted man.
VERNON SUBUTEX takes us to modern day Paris, populated with unusual characters, whose lives are all to be united by a man on the streets named Vernon Subutex.
Romain Duris and Céline Sallette are joined by cast members Laurent Lucas, Flora Fischbach,Philippe Rebbot, Florence Thomassin, Emilie Gavois-Kahn and Athaya Mokonzi. The series is written by director Cathy Verney and Benjamin Dupas and produced by Juliette Favreul Renaudand Estelle Sanson for JE FILMS as well as Emmanuel Daucé for TETRA MEDIA FICTION.
VERNON SUBUTEX – a series in 9×30 min episodes – will be aired exclusively in France on CANAL+ in April 2019.
