BLENHEIM, Ontario – Porsche Schweiz AG and RM Sotheby’s are pleased to announce a new single-lot, Online Only auction set to be hosted on rmsothebys.com and featuring a Porsche Taycan 4S, the marque’s first all-electric sports car, liveried in the artwork of acclaimed American artist Richard Phillips.
Opening for bidding on 6 April and running through 13 April, the single lot, which is offered without reserve, comprises the unique Taycan Artcar by Richard Phillips, as well as an exclusive tour of Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen, led by Porsche AG’s head of the Taycan model range. Proceeds from the sale will benefit the Swiss non-profit organization Suisseculture Sociale to support artists in Switzerland who have struggled through the course of the COVID-19 pandemic. To benefit the cause, all project partners, including RM Sotheby’s, will forgo collecting a fee or commission.
The unique Taycan Artcar was created live at the Leuehof pop-up restaurant on Zurich’s Bahnhofstrasse in December of last year. To create the Taycan Artcar, Richard Phillips applied his large-scale 2010 painting entitled Queen of the Night—inspired by the work of legendary Swiss landscape artist Adolf Dietrich— to the body of the Porsche. Printed on vinyl and applied to the car with heat guns by German company SIGNal Design, the artwork shows a three-dimensional arrangement of elements and details of the eight-square-meter painting flowing organically up the front hood over the front fenders and across the doors, giving a feeling of speed with the leaves of the night bloom. Moving toward the rear of the Taycan, the painted image glides over the roof and rear fenders as the flora opens to reveal the blue sky and attendant butterflies.

The Artcar was also fitted with added customized touches from Porsche Exclusive, including an illuminated inscription of Queen of the Night on the door sill panels and Richard Phillip’s signature illuminated by the door projectors onto the underfloor when the door is opened.

As a partner of the Leuehof restaurant, Porsche displayed the Artcar in its culinary art space following its creation. However, due to the pandemic, Leuehof closed its doors to the public shortly thereafter. For this reason, the Taycan Artcar will be on display for viewing at different Porsche Centers in Switzerland leading up to and during the auction. On 1 March, the car was available for viewing at the Porsche Center Geneva and then, on 22 March, it moved to the Porsche Center Zurich. Following the auction, it will be on display at the Porsche Center Zug and, from there, it will be handed over to the highest bidder.

“We wanted to capture this achievement by working together with a leading artist. The result is this creation, which reflects the guiding principles of sustainability and electromobility and of course also places a strong focus on nature in Switzerland. By auctioning the work and donating the proceeds we want to help the Swiss cultural landscape, which has been hit especially hard by the pandemic. Porsche has set a confident course through this crisis and we are eager to give something back to the community.”
