From 22 to 25 Feb. 2018 ShanghArt will be presenting more than 20 photographs from four representative artists : Chen Xiaoyun, Chen Wei, Birdhead and Yang Fudong.
The relationship between “City and individuality” is the pattern reflected in all participated works. Chen Xiaoyun and Yang Fudong who are at the same age share the similar method of poetic narratives to project how individuals conflict, resist and inspire with the urban survival conditions but in complete divergent perspectives. Chen Wei and his 1980s fellow artist duo Birdhead are initiated by their intuitions for making art. Specifically, Chen cultivates the urban relics and marginalized spaces into an obscure theatrical scene. On the contrary, Birdhead has portrayed the fast changing urbanlisation and their contemporaries with their massiveimprovisational and documentary images. Photographs enable them to be the successor, recorder and creator of this time. A spiritual window is also shaped by them to perceive this world.
