After the musician and electronic music composer Thylacine in 2019, it will be the turn of the artist and researcher Jeanne Vicerial to take over Magasins généraux for four weeks, as part of an exhibition-residency entitled “Clinique Vestimentaire”.
For the first solo-show of her work, the artist and researcher Jeanne Vicerial moved to Magasins généraux to set up her “Clinique Vestimentaire“: a huge laboratory dedicated to a reflection on the body and clothing.
At the crossroads of design, crafts, fashion, art and science, she will present her latest research and creations and continue to create on site, initiating new projects and collaborations.
A programme of performances, workshops and meetings will be available throughout the exhibition-residency in order to extend the artist’s reflection.
This event is part of the restitution of the research carried out by Jeanne Vicerial during her doctoral thesis SACRe-PSL (Sciences, Arts, Creation, Research) at EnsadLab, the research laboratory of the School of Decorative Arts, and at the École des Mines ParisTech, and during her residency at the Académie de France in Rome – Villa Médicis (2019-2020).
Curators: Anna Labouze & Keimis Henni, artistic directors of Magasins généraux
Partners: Académie de France in Rome – Villa Médicis, CARATS, École des Arts Décoratifs.
Jeanne Vicerial
Jeanne Vicerial was born in 1991 and turned to dressmaking as a teenager. After studying decorative Arts, she undertook a research project in clothing that she pursued in form of a SACRe doctoral thesis. Her work questioned contemporary means of clothing design, and offered an alternative to the tailor-made dichotomy / ready-to-wear linked to the fast fashion system. Thanks to a partnership with the mechatronics department of Mines – ParisTech, her research was deepened with a patented robotic process making it possible to produce tailor-made garments without leftover fabric scraps.
At the same time, Jeanne embarked on an artistic approach, after working at Hussein Chalayan, which led her to found the design studio Clinique Vestimentaire clothing. Developing new principles of textile creation, she is mainly inspired by muscle fibers to create her own weavings. Resident at the Académie de France in Rome – Villa Médicis in 2019-2020, she developed a work close to sculpture, exhibited in Rome, at the Lambert Foundation (Avignon) and her work entered into the collections of the CNAP. In autumn 2021 a solo-exhibition will take place at Magasins généraux (Pantin, France). cliniquevestimentaire.com
