The 36th FILMFEST MÜNCHEN has begun!
The 36th FILMFEST MÜNCHEN held its opening gala at the Mathäser Filmpalast theater with the film “Mackie Messer – Brechts Dreigroschenfilm”. Director Joachim A. Lang was joined on the red carpet by Lars Eidinger, Tobias Moretti, Joachim Król, Claudia Michelsen, Britta Hammelstein, Robert Stadlober, Peri Baumeister, and Godehard Giese.
On June 28th – FILMFEST MÜNCHEN, now in its 36th year, held its opening gala at the Mathäser Filmpalast theater. Festival director Diana Iljine welcomed some 1,500 guests and gave them a preview of the next nine days:
“What’s important to say is: Everyone can attend any event! No closed shop: everybody can watch everything! We are a festival for the public with a summertime ambience, and the film festival is for everyone! There are a lot of parties. Representatives of the film industry can meet here in summery weather; directors and producers can discuss and develop new projects. The spectrum is very broad, from the gala with Emma Thompson to films from Egypt and Ukraine. We offer you all this and many more events at the film festival.”
Before the opening film “Mackie Messer – Brechts Dreigroschenfilm” by director Joachim A. Lang led the audience into a world full of music and intrigue, Dr. Hans-Georg Küppers, who heads the City of Munich’s Cultural Office, also welcomed the guests:
“I am especially pleased to see that so many of the films in the program have a connection to Munich. They make it clear that the Bavarian capital not only has an excellent film festival, but that our city is also an integral part of the film industry and a major contributor to the art of film.”
Minister President Dr. Markus Söder, commissioned to open the festival this year, looked forward to nine days of enthralling cinema and wonderful guests: “I’ve been a fan of movies since I was a kid. I’m excited by good films. Once again, FILMFEST MÜNCHEN has put together a first-class program. The festival is an absolute highlight — in Bavaria and far beyond. We want to support this. That’s why we want to invest even more into the festival as a declaration of love to film and the Filmfest.”
